Analogous Colour Schemes.

Lets look at the fabulous and versatile analogous colour scheme. This is quite different to complimentary, where colours sit opposite each other on the colour wheel.

An analogous colour scheme is where colours are adjacent or sit next to each other on the colour wheel. For example, orange and yellow, violet and red, green and blue and of course in the reverse too. Analogous colour schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye. They also mix and match well and create serene and comfortable designs in garments.

If you desire to work this combination back somewhat, simply add in a neutral, such as brown, tan or cream and black, white or grey. Get even more creative by using any colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. For example, yellow and green, blue and violet and red and orange.

An analogous colour scheme is particularly harmonious and flattering for those with hair and eye colour that are very similar yet not quite the same, such as, light, medium or dark brown hair and olive hazel eyes. Or blonde hair and brown eyes and blonde hair and green eyes. Also those with red hair and brown eyes look great in analogous colour schemes.
