Over the past few years, we’ve seen a shift away from the neutral coloured, traditionally structured, masculine silhouettes in men’s fashion. While this will always have a place in men’s wear, and a signature style for some, spring offers a whole new appeal for the blokes. It’s a move towards more delicate, gender-ambiguous clothing like silk and sheer shirts, v-necks, high waisted trousers, animal prints, oversize loose suiting, co-ords and chunky men’s Spring Trends 2020 slides or sandals, socks optional – cool Dads rejoice, David Beckham does it.

This season is reminiscent of what the ladies are doing in regards to intimates, think bralettes worn stylishly under a blazer. Guys, get ready to show your boxer shorts worn on the outside. This is the time to get colourful in spring 2020, think short shorts in silky satins and shirting fabrics. Teams well with t-shirts and sweatshirts, or worn as a matching set – who would have thought? The other option to this would be a co-ord of matching shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, perfect warm-weather wear.

And if you thought animal print was just for the girls, think again – it’s replacing the overdone floral of the past few years. Although classic, it still needs to suit your personality – opt for a minimal amount, but ideal for the dramatic or creative style man.

Too ‘out there’ for some…consider the Cuban collar shirt or bowling shirt – a key trend for spring/summer offering a vintage twist. Sustainability is strong within the fashion industry now and going forward so you could try and pick one of these babies up at your local op shop. With their boxy shape and exaggerated notch lapel collars, both the Cuban and bowling shirts are perfect for the warmer weather. Team a silk bowling shirt with tapered trousers for a comfy relaxed weekend outfit or a printed cotton Cuban shirt with tailored or Bermuda shorts.

And let’s not ignore the earthy utilitarian trend any dude can pull off. No man bag? No problem – this trend has you covered with an excess of pockets – there’s plenty of chic takes on utilitarian garments. Field jackets, safari jackets, chore coats, and shirt jackets are all great ways to ‘rock’ this trend. Team an unbuttoned shirt jacket with a t-shirt and chinos, a belted safari jacket with tapered beige trousers, or a military green field jacket worn over boxer-style shorts.
