Let’s chat about the importance of comfort during pregnancy for all the Mum’s to be out there!

One questions I’ve been asked is, “Do I really need to buy a whole new maternity wardrobe?” My answer is… not necessarily.
Like many women, I didn’t want to invest in an entire wardrobe that I’d only wear for a relatively short period of time when I was pregnant with Emmy. Instead, I focused on making the most of the clothes I already owned and added just a few key pieces that would see me through my pregnancy and beyond.
During the first trimester, many women can continue wearing much of their existing wardrobe before their bump begins to grow. This is a great opportunity to shop your own wardrobe first. Look for garments that already offer comfort and flexibility, such as relaxed shirts, knitwear, longer tops, soft dresses, cardigans and lightweight jackets.
As your body changes, layering becomes your best friend. Pieces that button or zip open are practical, versatile and easy to remove if you’re feeling warmer than usual, which many expectant mums do.
One of my favourite tips is to invest in a belly band. It’s a simple but clever addition that allows you to continue wearing your pre-pregnancy jeans, trousers and skirts a little longer by comfortably covering an unbuttoned waistband while supporting your growing bump.

When the time comes, a great pair of maternity jeans or trousers is well worth the investment. They grow with you, provide all-day comfort and can make getting dressed so much easier.
If you’d prefer not to buy many maternity-specific garments, choose quality relaxed or oversized styles that you’ll continue wearing long after your baby arrives. This creates a wardrobe with much greater longevity and value.

And one trend I’m always happy to see return is the humble overall. I absolutely loved mine during pregnancy! They’re comfortable, practical and wonderfully versatile. They also make feeding easier once baby arrives and can be styled with a belt or worn relaxed afterwards, making them one of those rare pieces that transition beautifully through every stage.
Most importantly, remember that pregnancy doesn’t change your personality or your sense of style. You can still dress in a way that reflects who you are while choosing garments that support your changing body beautifully.
After all, style isn’t about the size you wear, it’s about feeling comfortable, confident and like yourself every step of the way.

Lizzy’s Tip: Rather than buying lots of maternity clothes, invest in a few beautiful basics in your correct colour palette. They’ll mix and match effortlessly, photograph beautifully and continue to work with the rest of your wardrobe long after baby arrives
