Here are a few easy tips to help your makeup truly harmonise with your natural colouring – whether you’re warm or cool colouring…
First things first: foundation has nothing to do with undertone.
Your undertone decides your colour palette, but your foundation must match your skin’s overtone – the colour you actually see on the surface (fair, medium, deep, olive, etc.). When you get the overtone correct, your foundation becomes virtually invisible. It won’t look like “makeup”; it simply looks like flawless, even, healthy skin. That’s the goal!
Next, your colour cosmetics – blush, lipstick, eyeshadow need to match your undertone.
Warm colouring shines in peach, coral, terracotta, golden nudes and warm rosy browns.
Cool colouring glows in soft pinks, berries, mauves, plums and blue-red lipsticks.
Wearing a cool blush and lipstick on a warm person (or vice-versa) creates a subtle but unmistakable clash. Instead of enhancing the complexion, it jars drawing attention to the makeup rather than creating that seamless, naturally radiant harmony. The right hues should melt beautifully into your skin tone so people notice you, not your products.
And don’t forget your eyes!
Colours opposite your eye colour on the colour wheel make your eyes absolutely pop.
Green or hazel eyes intensify with pinks, plums, mauves and burgundy/rust shades.
Blue eyes love warm golds, bronzes and coppery tones & cool browns & taupe.
Brown eyes sparkle with teals, navy, rich greens and purples.This contrast makes the whites appear brighter and the iris more vibrant, it’s one of the simplest pro tricks for instantly captivating eyes.
