The Magic of Stripes!
Stripes are one of the most underrated heroes in a wardrobe. Most people think of them as a pattern, but they’re actually considered a solid, which is why they mix effortlessly with almost any other solid, print or pattern. This instantly makes them versatile, timeless, classic and interesting without ever feeling “too much.”
Stripes become even more elevated when the colours within the stripe relate to the other colours you’re wearing. And when the undertones harmonise (warm with warm & cool with cool) the whole outfit makes more sense, intentional and beautifully pulled together.

Another brilliant thing about stripes is how beautifully they can shape and balance the body…
1. Vertical stripes naturally lengthen
2. Diagonal stripes soften & add movement
3. Horizontal stripes, when chosen thoughtfully, can create balance rather than add width.

The trick is the width of the stripe and where it sits on the body – placing them on narrower areas helps avoid widening, while steering clear of the peak of the bust, thighs, widest part of the calves, arms, or waist.
But here’s the part most people don’t realize, wide stripes widen no matter the direction. Wide stripes act like a fence widening the body & narrow stripes work like a ladder giving apparent length. Fine horizontal stripes can create a similar “ladder effect” if they’re tightly spaced. This is why spacing and thickness matter.

Stripes can bring gorgeous depth and texture to an outfit without overwhelming it. They work beautifully across seasons, styles and occasions. Pairing stripes with textured fabrics like linen, denim or knits adds effortless interest & because stripes are considered a solid, they give you the freedom to be creative while still looking grounded, classic but well put-together.
Once you understand each stripe, they stop being something to fear & become one of the most flattering, wardrobe-winning pieces you’ll ever own.
