Loving my new chocky brown corduroy overalls for winter!
They’re super warm & as you’ll see from my pics I have so many fabulous options (for winter & spring) from my current wardrobe to wear under them! Notice everything allows for a high contrast (light & dark) with the dark brown overalls. When we match our clothes/outfits to our natural value & colour contrast we look even more amazing in them.

Perfect for my ‘X’ shape they suit most silhouettes but following the appropriate styling principles for overalls is important…
As always, personality rules so if you don’t feel yourself in them, then they’re not right for you…

Overalls, also known as dungarees, have a rich history that dates back to the late 18th century. Initially designed as practical workwear, they were made from durable materials like denim or canvas to withstand hard labor. Overalls became popular among farmers, railroad workers, and miners in the 19th and early 20th centuries due to their functionality and durability.
During the 1960s and 70s, overalls transitioned from workwear to fashion statements, embraced by the counterculture and youth movements. They became associated with a laid-back, relaxed rebellious style and were often seen in colourful and patterned variations. The 1990s saw another resurgence of overalls, particularly in the grunge and hip-hop scenes. I lived in overalls when I was pregnant with Emmy in 1999 & still love them today! I love the relaxed, sporty, tomboy appeal they offer.

Overalls come & go in a big way within the fashion/retail space so are probably more of a trend rather than a fad. Even if they’re not ‘in’ you can always hunt down a pair as I did in Surf, Dive & Ski.

Styling Tips for Overalls
1. Casual Look:
Pair your overalls with a simple t-shirt or tank top for a relaxed, everyday look.
Complete the outfit with sneakers or flat sandals for maximum comfort.
2. Layering:
Layer a fitted turtleneck or long-sleeve top underneath your overalls for a cozy, stylish appearance.
Add a cardigan or oversized sweater on top for extra warmth and dimension.
3. Chic Ensemble:
Elevate your overalls with a blouse or button-down shirt for a more polished look.
Opt for heeled boots or ankle boots to add a touch of sophistication.
4. Accessories:
Use accessories to personalize your look.
A belt can define your waist, while a hat adds a playful element.
Statement jewelry or a bold handbag can enhance your overall outfit.
5. Seasonal Adaptations:
In summer, choose shortalls or lightweight fabric overalls and pair them with sandals and a sunhat.
For winter, layer your overalls with a chunky knit sweater, scarf, and boots to stay warm and stylish.
6. Pattern Play:
Don’t be afraid to experiment with patterned overalls. Pair them with a solid-coloured to match a colour in the overalls or in a neutral the same colour as to keep the focus on the overalls.
